Help us Close the gap!
“We will tell the next generation of the glorious deeds of the Lord…” — Psalm 78
We are full of gratitude. As I write this, we are midway through Phase 1 construction and, as you’ve seen, our Youth Ministry Center is taking shape—and with God’s help we expect to open its doors in mid-April 2026. That new space will be a bright, safe, and creative home for young people in our congregation and across the city.
Because of generous faith and sacrificial giving, this campaign has already moved mountains: donors have committed an amazing amount of resources toward our campaign, and the impact is already visible. As of today, we have received all but $675,000 of our $6.5 million goal—That’s just about 90% of what we need to end our campaign debt-free by 2028. Amazing!
Up next is Phase 2: an dramatic overhaul of our Music and Arts Department, our Office Complex, our Church Library, and our Gerholz Center for Christian Counseling. All we need to get that work underway are financial commitments for the remaining $675,000.
Why Phase 2 Matters
Phase 2 is not an “extra” to this project, it represents the heart of our desire to welcome people of all ages and abilities, to expand music and arts ministry, and to strengthen the community-facing work that draws people out of poverty and toward dignity and hope. Phase 2, when it launches, will see us add:
A fully-accessible choir rehearsal space, choir lounge and expanded music library so our musicians can flourish;
A nearly-tripled Community Ministry suite—an outer office for an assistant, confidential counseling space, and room to serve more people with dignity;
A new Fellowship Café with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a coffee/snack bar, and a welcoming room for recovery groups, Bible study, and intergenerational fellowship;
And a renovated and expanded Gerholz Center for Christian Counseling, improving the safety, security, and wellbeing of our counselors and clients.
Help us Close the gap!
If you have not yet made a pledge or gift to the For the Next Generation campaign, would you consider joining us now?
We are looking to secure $675,000 in pledges or direct gifts by March 15, 2026 to keep our Phase 2 schedule intact.
Ways to give
Give online: set up a pledge or one-time gift by using this link.
By check: Make payable to First Presbyterian Church of Flint — memo: CAPITAL CAMPAIGN.
Stock, bonds, mutual funds, QCDs, planned gifts: these remain excellent tax-wise ways to make transformational gifts. (If you’d like help with any of these options, we can connect you with campaign leaders.)
A closing word
This project is a stewardship of faith, hope, and of place. We are striving to make our facility a place of healing and transformation for decades to come. We’re not doing this for the building’s sake: but rather so that children and teenagers can grow in faith and safety; so choirs can sing without barriers; so our Community Ministry department can better serve people with dignity and safety; and and so our neighbors can gather for recovery, hope, and discipleship.
Would you join us? A pledge of any size given in love will move us closer to the goal. Please pray with us, and please give what you can before March 15, 2026, so that we may begin the next phase on time and continue to be a beacon of hope in downtown Flint.
With gratitude and hope,
Joseph.
