Phase 2: From Demolition to Framing

The east end of the office complex (June 17).

The Demolition Cycle Continues

As June melts into July (literally, for those who experienced last week’s weather), the construction work at FPCF continues with more demolition in the library, office and music complex and more framing and construction in the Gerholz Center. There’s still a lot to deconstruct before we are able to notice the new spaces take shape, but the progress made so far is encouraging!

GERHOLZ CHRISTIAN COUNSELING CENTER

The progress made in the Gerholz Center is the furthest along of our projects right now and things are starting to get framed in nicely. Offices are taking shape, underground plumbing is complete and new concrete was poured (today!) to fill in the slab.

In the photos, you can see red-tinted lumber used alongside steel framing studs. Per building code, all wood products are required to be fire-retardant, and the chemical used to treat the wood leaves an orange-red finish.

Office Complex

Work in the office continues; we had to wait to approve an IT/low voltage wiring contract before we could move our church’s network and phone system to its temporary home in a maintenance office downstairs. Now that that’s done, we can conclude demolition and continue framing in our new offices and gathering spaces.

One exciting component to our new office complex is that it is built around the church staff we have now—and expect to have in the future—and not the church staff we had in the 1980s. More spaces for collaboration, planning, celebration, and study are critical to building the lively, joyous, and unified staff culture we want to continue well into our future.

We can’t wait for you to see it all as it takes shape!

Music Complex

I’ve included a few pictures here of the early phase of demolition (that still show the rounded walls of the rehearsal space), but the most recent ones are near the top and you can clearly see that THE WALLS ARE GONE.

Let the sunshine in! We now have eight (8) windows pouring natural light into the room whereas before we had….none.

We are still waiting for an update from our engineers about how high we will be able to raise the ceiling in the new rehearsal space (we had initially hoped to raise it all the way to the upper deck of the roof), but we are making alternate plans in case we cannot do so.

Demolition will continue a bit more slowly upstairs as the process of getting demolished material to the dumpster is a bit more laborious.

Framing will begin upstairs next week, which will be exciting to see how the new floorplan takes shape!

More later this month!
